Award-winning Journalist on HVC Staff

HVC senior editor Pete Kennedy, who is also a weekly columnist for the local daily newspaper, the Waukesha Freeman, was awarded a first place by the Wisconsin Newspaper Association (WNA) under the "local column," category B, daily division of its statewide competition.  The annual competition drew 2,716 editorial entries from 147 newspapers. Kennedy’s award-winning column about older people, including mothers/grandmothers, getting tattoos is headlined "Mom's new tattoo." The judge wrote: "It was hard to pick just one of Pete's columns. He's a great writer who has the ability to put the reader smack in the middle of the situation."

Best Construction Photos Includes Winner from HVC Editor

A dramatic photograph of a Caterpillar skid steer loader with a backhoe attachment digging in the shadow of a NASA Kennedy Space Center launch tower was featured in Engineering News Record’s annual “Images of the Year in Construction” special issue. The photo was taken by HVC senior editor John Koski as part of his coverage of a $3-million pipe-laying project on the high-security grounds in Florida. The selected photo is one of only 25 images featured in ENR. Koski’s photograph, as well as others he shot at the site, complemented the cover story he wrote for Compact Edge (Vol. 2, No. 2) magazine.

The PR Idea Book: 50 Proven Tools that Really Work, by Jeff Winke, has recently been published by Outskirts Press. The book is available from various online bookstores, such as amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com, or can be ordered through any bookshop. Winke is director of public relations & special projects and a senior editor with HVC. The book cover was designed by HVC graphic designer, Ben Newby.
